A new encounter, a story. Kambayashi Hotel Senjyukaku. A story was born from an encounter. It was 1929. It began when Tohei Kozu, the first president of Nagano Electric Railway, met Lieutenant Herzet of Norway. This encounter in Kambayashi brought European and Japanese cultures together, creating a completely new culture and space. It was an epoch-making event that for the first time incorporated the culture of a Western-style hotel into a Japanese-style ryokan. This encounter also marked the prologue to the development of Shiga Kogen and Kambayashi Onsen, now known as one of Japan’s leading international resorts.
